Our social responsibilities

As a business, we have a responsibility. It’s one we take extremely seriously, and it affects a lot of our decisions, from where we buy our coffee to how we work.

One of our core values is Care, and that goes beyond caring about our staff and customers (which we do, a lot). We also care about the community we live and work in. We care about the impact we as a company have on the environment. And we care about making socially responsible decisions that reflect the ethos of our company culture.

Here are some of the things we’re doing every day to make the world a bit better:

Community volunteering

Our employer-supported volunteer scheme gives our staff the chance to take one paid day off a year to do voluntary work with an organisation of their choice. So far, we’ve had team members who give regular career talks at local schools.

We also care about improving diversity in the wider tech industry, so we regularly host CodeBar workshops that help underrepresented groups to learn how to code.

Charity fundraising

We host regular fundraisers, including Macmillan’s coffee morning, Jeans for Gene’s Day, Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, and Movember. Most recently, we committed to fundraising for UK charity Stand Against Racism and Inequality to support the Black Lives Matter movement. All of our fundraising is employee-led by our internal culture team.

Our suppliers

Wherever possible we support local small businesses in Brighton – from where we order our coffee, to our choice of PR agency (which also has strong social justice values – they publicise community events pro bono, encourage staff volunteering, and the founder has been volunteering in Brighton hospital A&E during coronavirus).

We’ve won awards for our commitment to reducing waste. Our teams reuse the coffee grounds from our coffee machine as compost, we create our own signage to encourage recycling in the office, and we repurpose old tech to host video games socials.

Flexible work

As part of our award-winning company culture, we’ve long championed and promoted remote work both externally and internally, which benefits society and our environment by reducing company carbon footprints, and alleviating the burden on employees with caring responsibilities. Although we are a global company with clients all over the world, we rarely travel to see them as we can be just as effective and efficient using our own communication tools.

Mental health

We cover the cost of a subscription to Headspace for all our staff, to help with wellbeing and mental health. We also offer health insurance after one year of service, discounted gym membership, and a cycle to work scheme.
