Intranet
Extranet Solutions
The answer is very definitely both.
In almost all company installations with no previous
Intranets or Extranets, the system begins life as
an intranet and then access is gradually given to
external parties, so the system functions as both
an Extranet and an intranet. This is a general trend
most companies follow and we would agree with it –
successful knowledge management projects require planning
and it is easier to realise an Intranet and then add
external access to it than start both at once. However
the planning process for the Intranet must identify
that an Extranet will be added.
Integration
By integrating their external and internal web sites,
companies can create a powerful, holistic information
system to distribute information to their customers
and empower their sales force.
Claromentis allows the administrators to specify
branding for each extranet area, by for example placing
the client logo in partnership with the company branding.
And with Claromentis, this is done all in one tightly
integrated package.
Access Control
With Claromentis, access to information is controlled
by individual user log-on accounts and which uses
encrypted passwords. It assigns users roles which
controls the data and screens they see and what information
they can change thus hiding internal information from
external users.
Further division is made by the concept of Work
Groups – in this case the company can
chose to allow individuals in other organisations
to become part of the same Work Group – thus
again merging the concepts of Intranets and Extranets.
