Bespoke Software House or Intranet Provider?

November 14th, 2010 by Nigel Davies

It seems like a crazy question to be asking ourselves after over 10 years in business, but the nature of intranets and the capability of web based software have changed so much in just the last few years that this is indeed a question that is not as off the wall  as it seems.

As we have posted many times, essentially all software is now web based, and all software used by staff or across customer and supply chains is permission based. So basically Claromentis is providing software – but people would tend to refer to those as intranet or extranet applications.

At the same time our prototyping approach, agile development and the power of the Claromentis API and Framework – with so many thousands of classes and reusable components – mean that we can in addition develop simple, elegant applications to solve bespoke problems quickly and reliably.

We can do that on Linux or Windows, on MySQL, MSSQL or Oracle – and in multiple languages.

Exciting Times!

It may be a confusing time for marketing folks – as we are now providing software to companies who already have “intranets” – but it certainly is an exciting time to be a developer, designer or information architect at Claromentis.

I believe it’s also a great time to be a Claromentis customer – our ability to deploy everything from information layers, processes, and corporate social networking through to substantial business applications for particular needs such as project and sales management means that the customer can really deliver on their internal aspirations and goals.

So it is not so crazy to think that we are a software company not an intranet provider – the intranet information and interaction layer we deploy is so often now just seen as phase 1 – a platform on which to solve the customers real requirements using bespoke applications coded within the Claromentis framework.
