RSS within Claromentis

June 7th, 2011

RSS is a technology being used by millions of web users around the globe, making the delivery of regularly changing web content easy. It allows people to stay informed by retrieving the latest content from sites they’re interested in, without having to visit each individually.

Benefits of RSS include streamlined communication between publisher and reader, new audiences reached through syndication, a faster method for content scanning, and the readers’ ability to control the flow of information by opting in for content updates to suit their interests.

The Claromentis RSS Reader component makes reading news or events easy, be it from an external source such as the BBC or using your own internal RSS feed. The component allows two modes of reading, one is a fixed feed experience – designed for when you want a feed readable by all without them being able to customize where it is reading from; the second makes use of custom metadata, allowing your end user to configure where the news is coming from, so that the component is always personal to them.

Any RSS feed can be placed on the homepage or in any content managed area of the intranet. Embedding relevant RSS feeds into a content page is one of the easiest ways to get fresh news delivered to your readers. All you need is feed2js installed on your system. This is a simple plugin allowing you to generate javascript snippets from any RSS feed. RSS feeds are great because they tend to include enough information to update the reader, without overwhelming them with excessive details.

In addition to this, RSS feeds can be created using output data from various applications, such as InfoCapture. Why not try it out? Follow the guide on our wiki here

First week at Claromentis

August 3rd, 2010

During my first week I spent time observing Sweta and Julian, gaining an insight into IT Support within Claromentis. Of course, a crucial aspect of learning how to support clients effectively and efficiently involves new employees learning the ins and outs of the company and software. I have started to learn the basic Claromentis applications, beginning with the Holiday Planner. After creating a User Guide for the application, I put together a couple of ‘How To’ pages for wiki. These can be found at the links below:

How to request holiday…… http://www.claromentis.com/wiki/help:holiday_planner:book_holiday

How to approve/decline holiday…… http://www.claromentis.com/wiki/help:holiday_planner:approve_holiday

As well as studying the basic applications, I have learnt to carry out other simple tasks such as creating/editing accounts on Discover. And today I’ve been working on something really important – clearing out the spam emails!

I’ve really enjoyed my first week at Claromentis – thanks guys for being so welcoming (and patient!) with me.
