Those of you that follow us regularly will know that all Claromentis interfaces are bespoke, and that we are just releasing the Claromentis 6.0 platform.
I just love the possibilities in 6.0 – the MyDesk, the components, the bespoke possibilities and of course the new corporate social networking application – Innovate.
Existing clients are now starting the decision process of how to leverage this, and generally this means thoughts of design refresh, which we would recommend every couple of years even if we had not migrated to a new major release.
I found this example, produced last week, particularly interesting :

Example of Claromentis 6.0 Intranet Design

Of particular interest :
1. The bespoke dashboard – showing individual performance in the business from back office databases
2. The promotion of the general stream of Innovate to the home page – truly embracing Corporate Social Networking.
3. Multiple business branding
This is a really great example of a Claromentis Intranet. that is driven by business needs and yet is still extremely attractive and dynamic.

corporate social networking, Design, intranet software
It seems like a crazy question to be asking ourselves after over 10 years in business, but the nature of intranets and the capability of web based software have changed so much in just the last few years that this is indeed a question that is not as off the wall as it seems.
As we have posted many times, essentially all software is now web based, and all software used by staff or across customer and supply chains is permission based. So basically Claromentis is providing software – but people would tend to refer to those as intranet or extranet applications.
At the same time our prototyping approach, agile development and the power of the Claromentis API and Framework – with so many thousands of classes and reusable components – mean that we can in addition develop simple, elegant applications to solve bespoke problems quickly and reliably.
We can do that on Linux or Windows, on MySQL, MSSQL or Oracle – and in multiple languages.

Exciting Times!
It may be a confusing time for marketing folks – as we are now providing software to companies who already have “intranets” – but it certainly is an exciting time to be a developer, designer or information architect at Claromentis.
I believe it’s also a great time to be a Claromentis customer – our ability to deploy everything from information layers, processes, and corporate social networking through to substantial business applications for particular needs such as project and sales management means that the customer can really deliver on their internal aspirations and goals.
So it is not so crazy to think that we are a software company not an intranet provider – the intranet information and interaction layer we deploy is so often now just seen as phase 1 – a platform on which to solve the customers real requirements using bespoke applications coded within the Claromentis framework.

Only a quick post, but the more I work with our clients, the less I see them using documents. Sounds silly doesn’t it?! But let me explain with an example.
Take an organisations ‘Contracts Register’. I would estimate that a great percentage of small/medium size organisations would have one, and most of these would use a product like Microsoft Excel to manage it.
And while using an Excel sheet is a great way to start, it does not scale at all, and will become down right frustrating as your business grows. So rather than a DOCUMENT, you use a SYSTEM. Claromentis has a module that does a much better job than any Excel sheet could ever do, while offering all the extra features such as been web based, permissions controlled, create easy reports, notifying users on expiry dates and much more!
So, as we see the rise of systems such as Claromentis, we will invariably see the decline of documents – which can only be a good thing!
