There has always been a debate about which is better, the Linux, the Microsoft or the Mac. Each one of them has their own strong points and each fare better than other in some aspect or the other. In terms of security, for some Microsoft Windows is more secure than other two but it seems that this thought is much influenced by the advertisement campaign of Microsoft that keeps on boasting that it has the most secured Internet or Intranet software. Even the Linux and Mac have equally secured system or could be said that they are more secured than windows because Linux and Mac OS X system are hardly affected by bugs or viruses and the best part is you do not have to install any anti-virus for protection. The supporters of Microsoft have now come up with a very valid argument now that as Microsoft is the most used operating system its more vulnerable to attacks from hackers. Its true as well and the way Microsoft has come up with various security measures against different viruses and bugs is truly commendable.

In terms of installation, Linux is much lighter in installation than Mac and Windows and is free to install while you have to pay for Windows and Mac for installation. This feature put Linux ahead of Microsoft and Mac but there are certain other features in which Microsoft as well as Mac scores higher than Linux. Mac is excellent for use by the professionals like graphic designers, media and music experts and computer animation experts and in this field it fares much better than Windows and Linux. Although even Microsoft has got great features, but its way behind Mac. The only thing that goes against Mac is it is targeted towards certain genres and has good performance as well as stability but lacks the all round compatibility of the Windows. The all round compatibility has taken Microsoft much ahead of its other competitor Linux as well. Linux facilitates its users to move their Linux system to new hardware or to even clone an existing system as there is no licensing while both Mac and Microsoft Windows have licence regulation so you can’t do the same with them.

In terms of integration Mac proves to be better operating system in comparison to Windows and Linux. Mac also has got the added advantage of running both Linux and Windows operating system. In terms of user ease Microsoft Windows fares better than both of them as for Mac you need extra training as well as have to spend higher price while Linux becomes too techie for the users. Even in terms of features like games, media and entertainment Microsoft Windows is way ahead of these operating systems. This is the reason why Microsoft is used in nearly every house and office all round the world. All these above mentioned discussion does not prove that any one is superior to the other but it indicates a point that the large popularity of Microsoft certainly gives it an upper hand over other two operating systems.
